Alex Herder
Alex lives and works in Washington DC. Aside from working at a small tech company, Alex does a lot of reading, photographing, designing and thinking. The subject of his posts are as varied as his moods but most posts seem to be focused on art, photography, soccer, Africa, technology (especially as it intersects with society/art), theology, film, snowboarding, computers, open-source everything, international development, out-of-control capitalism, organic/vegetarian food, meteorology, sex/relationships, health, green architecture, and travel.
Brian Giera
Brian is a new PhD candidate in in chemical engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara focusing on transport. Brian's posts reflect both his academic and extracurricular interests of capitalism, materialism, industry, and environmentalism, objectivism, realism, pessimism, happiness, dreams, reason, rationalism, secularism, atheism, logic, and Taoism, education, science, intelligence, research, literature, camaraderie, teamwork, individualism, honesty, reliability, pride, greed, envy as a motivator, the self-made, ownership, egoism, efficiency, wealth, philanthropy, and long sentences. Both he and Alex try to be the uncarved block.
Jeff Ginger
After receiving a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Illinois, Jeff has switched departments and started a PhD program in information science. His academic work focuses on social informatics, digital divide and social networking services and not surprisingly, so do his posts. Additionally, Jeff is a passionate leader in many local organizations, an athlete and a HUGE computer nerd.
Kristin Ginger
Kristin just graduated from Carleton College having acquired a semi-useless B.A. in English, a minor in Spanish, a fascination with Quakers, and a strong fondness for folk singing/the ukulele. She will be working as an Americorps VISTA in Minneapolis this coming year with MCC Refugee Services, acting as the New Arrivals Education Coordinator and wishing she spoke Hmong, Somali, or at least Oromo rather than Spanish. Interests and the subject of posts include anything related to National Geographic, circuses, the dance world, art and social activism, oddities of the literary world, and anything momentarily intriguing.
Mike Pellegrino
Mike is a second year law student at the University of Illinois still trying to work out the difference between honors and high honors. He has a wide variety of interests reflected in his posts, but some of the general themes include technology (especially video games, Apple, and the intersection of technology with law), law in general, sports (hockey is my life), politics (American, comparative, and international), healthy eating and living, the future, environmental consciousness, journalism, the British Parliament, mathematics (inquiries on number theory welcome; those on differential equations discouraged), and anything and everything written by Thomas Friedman.
